Slumgullion

Metric will be at Lollapalooza this afternoon. Photo taken from Metric’s Facebook page.

Lollapalooza kicks off at noon today at Grant Park in Chicago. I usually don’t say much about it here since it’s so extensively and expertly covered by most of the city’s media. The Reader has a suggested itinerary, and WXRT, which has proclaimed itself Lollapalooza Radio, will have Marty Lennartz doing live broadcasts from the festival site throughout the weekend. Innerview magazine, which is available at the Reckless Records downtown store at 26 E. Madison, had devoted its entire August issue to Lollapalooza, and the Illinois Entertainer, has schedule information, and plans to post reviews of the shows.

My pick for Lollapalooza today would be Metric, who just released the impressive Synthetica CD.

Today is the last day that Metrospective, a collection of posters created for concerts at the Metro over the past 30 years, will be on display at the Inland Steel Building. There are several works on exhibit, many of them autographed by the bands being promoted, as well as photographs and other artifacts from one of Chicago’s best known the rock clubs. The Inland Steel Building is located at 77 S. Dearborn in downtown Chicago.

Rock Art Show will be showcasing some of its work at the 94.7 WLS Rock & Roll Art ShowAnd Sale  this weekend at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 East Congress Parkway. It's right by Lollapalooza. Admission is free and hours are from 2:00 PM to midnight today and tomorrow, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday.

River City Tanlines will be having a record release party tomorrow night at the Crown Tap Room in Chicago for its latest effort, Coast To Coast. Party Bat is also on the bill, along with another (yet to be named) band. The Crown Tap Room is located at 2821 N. Milwaukee Avenue. I reviewed Coast To Coast on Broken Hearted Toy this past July 17th.
