Weekend Reminders

Today’s post is focused on events taking place this weekend that I’ve mentioned previously on Broken Hearted Toy. This gives readers an extra day’s additional notice, and since the events won’t be repeated in tomorrow’s Slumgullion, helps streamline my Friday post. Slumgullion won’t be entirely new. I’ll keep mentioning upcoming events up to and including the Thursday prior to the weekend they take place.

Super Creeps, the Chicago-based David Bowie tribute band, has a gig at Liar’s Club tomorrow night. Dinosaur Galaxy, whose debut album light years behind was released on various streaming sites last year, is also on the bill. Liar’s Club is located at 1665 W. Fullerton on Chicago’s north side.

Depending on when you read this, you could still check out Don’t Turn You Back On Friday Night at Metro on Chicago’s north side. The documentary, which examines the career of veteran indie rocker Ike Reilly, will be screened at 6:00 and 10:00 pm tonight.

Power pop and indie rock fans in the San Diego area can drop by the Black Cat Bar for a one-night-only, six-act International Pop Overthrow showcase this Saturday. IPO - Vancouver takes place August 29 – 31.

FanEXPO Chicago returns to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont tomorrow, and will cast its magical spell throughout the weekend. This annual convention is a major attraction for self-professed nerds, sci-fi devotees, graphic novels readers, art lovers, and anyone who embraces the more adventurous paths of modern culture. This year’s numerous celebrity guests include Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, Marisa Tomei, William Shatner, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurie Metcalf, Linda Hamilton, and Kate Mulgrew.

The Northman Riverwalk has another full weekend of live music coming up to go along with its impressive, outdoor view of downtown Chicago. Tomorrow night, the Americana quintet Reverie Stone will perform roots and country tunes from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday’s double bill offers Americana band Tipsy Town at 3:00 pm; and the acoustic trio Golden Fiddle at 6:00 pm. This Sunday, the rock band Sam Vicari And The Feeders will perform songs from their 2020 album Kerchoo, starting at 3:00 pm. The Northman Riverwalk is located on the Chicago River at 233 N. Riverwalk.

Local indie and somewhat mysterious rockers whitewolfsonicprincess have an outdoor show this Sunday at La Principal (outside the Custer Street Oasis) from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The exact address is 700 Main Street in Evanston.
