Incoming

The Bangles Official Facebook page recently mentioned the release of The Bangles Japanese Singles Collection - Greatest Hits CD/DVD compilation, and thanks to some helpful comments from their fans, I was able to order a copy from CDJapan. Amazingly, it arrived within a week. Longtime Bangles fans will likely already have most of these tracks, but the DVD’s 14 music videos include three world premieres, and there’s also a 56-page booklet with color photos and lyrics in English and Japanese.

Fans of Pravda Records can celebrate the Chicago-based independent company’s 40th Anniversary with their choice of tea or coffee over breakfast with the special mug that’s now available from on its Bandcamp page. Of course, they can also mark the occasion by showing up at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn on August 31 and rocking out to several bands from the Pravda roster.

Whether you drop by after work on a weekday, or at your leisure on the weekend, The Northman Riverwalk offers live music and food outdoors with an impressive view of downtown Chicago. This Thursday brings Paul Abella’s Questionable Decisions, which sounds like the title of a tell-all book, but is actually a jazz-punk fusion quartet who’ll perform from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Indiana-based Americana-roots rockers The Failers will perform from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday; and Saturday’s 3:00 pm show will feature Chicago club scene veterans Superfrye and The Valiant 72s. The Northman Riverwalk is located on the Chicago River at 233 N. Riverwalk.

The PureSoul Presents: Soul Brunch Series at City Winery Chicago continues this Saturday, August 10 at noon with Divas Of Dance: Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross.

There will be a triple bill of Chicago acts at Cobra Lounge this Thursday featuring power pop veterans Phil Yates And The Affiliates; the trio xyzxyz; and quartet Surgery Cult. Cobra Lounge is located at 235 N. Ashland; the music starts at 8:00 pm.
