Incoming

If there’s a fog outside Reggies Music Joint this Friday night or the air feels a bit chilly, it’s most likely because Charming Disaster is performing there. Chicago is the first stop on the Brooklyn-based goth-folk duo’s Spooky Season Tour, with dates in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, and Georgia to follow. Their recently released album Super Natural History features songs such as “Monsters,” “Bat Song,” and my personal favorite “Disembodied Head.” In Chicago, Charming Disaster will be joined by the impressive alt rock band The Handcuffs; self-described “twist o’hard-edged whatever” cabaret trio Tennis Court Oath; and Chicago glam marching band Clamor And Lace Noise Brigade. Sounds like a good reason to get that Halloween costume out a week and half early.

Hackney Diamonds, The Rolling Stones’ first new studio album of original songs in 18 years, is coming out this Friday. A recent post on the official Rolling Stones Facebook page features this assessment from band member Ron Wood: “A lot of the tracks on the album have that explosion. This is a really in-your-face album.” Listening to “Angry,” the first single released from Hackney Diamonds, suggests that just might be the case.

Big Stir Records artist Dolph Chaney has a record release party for his one-word-titled latest effort Mug coming up on October 27 at The Gallery Cabaret on Chicago’s north side. Librarians With Hickeys, Popular Creeps, and Alpine Subs will also be performing that evening.

It’s hard to guess how many Monkees or R.E.M. fans saw this coming, but Micky Dolenz has recorded an EP honoring the Athens, GA alt rock band. Dolenz Sings R.E.M., featuring his takes on “Shiny Happy People,” “Radio Free Europe,” “Man On The Moon,” and “Leaving New York,” comes out on November 3rd in vinyl and CD formats. It can be pre-ordered on the official Micky Dolenz website, and signed copies are available.

Montrose Saloon will present a four-act showcase this Saturday consisting of John Boyle; whitewolfsonicprincess; Tom Curless And The 46%, and Brick Briscoe And The Skinny.

The Three O’Clock will re-release their Paisley Underground masterpiece Sixteen Tambourines album with a new cover and remastered tracks in vinyl, CD, and the stream formats this Friday.

The Pino Farina Band has a gig coming up at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights this Saturday.

The 19th Annual CHIRP Record Fair And Other Delights takes place this Saturday at the Local 130 Plumbers Union Hall (1340 W. Washington) in Chicago. Sponsored by CHIRP Radio (Chicago Independent Radio Project), the event attracts several vendors offering an amazing selection of vinyl, CDs, DVDs, and posters.
