White Noise And Lightning: The Best Of Continental Drifters will be released in CD and vinyl formats on September 13 via Omnivore Recordings. Fans of the Americana band, which features members of The Cowsills; The Bangles; R.E.M.; The Dream Syndicate; Hootie and the Blowfish; and The dB’s, can also look forward to an authorized biography with that same title written by musician/producer Sean Kelly. The book is due out September 27, and is being marketed alongside We Are All Drifters: A Tribute To The Continental Drifters double CD that includes renditions by Marshall Crenshaw; Debbi Peterson And The Minus 5; Steve Wynn; and Kim Richey.
EXPO ’76, along with their frequent companions, the Total Pro Horns, will perform at Tiny Tap on the Chicago River Walk tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:00 pm. These guys have years of experience creating original music on the local club scene, and obviously enjoy delivering an amazing variety of material as a covers band.
Chicago alt rock band and Pravda Records recording artists The Handcuffs are keeping busy these days, and that includes a gig at Mary’s Place in Rockford this Saturday night. Rockford’s own The Sit Up Straights will also perform. Mary’s Place is located at 602 N. Madison Street.
According to a very recent Facebook post, Chicago-based indie rock band The Telepaths have “dramatically morphed and evolved” since adding guitarist Chris Bock. He’ll be onboard for this Saturday night’s show at Phyllis’ Musical Inn, when The Telepaths unveil their brand new song “Tornado Ride.” Baby No Name will also perform that night. Phyllis’ Musical Inn is located at 1800 W. Division.
Phil Angotti and Friends (Casey McDonough, John San Juan, and John Perrin) will recreate the setlist from The Beatles’ 1966 concert at Candlestick Park this Sunday as part of the Beatles Brunch series at City Winery Chicago. They’ll perform other Beatles favorites as well. The music starts at noon.
