Incoming

The Ravinia Festival in Highland Park has a long history of presenting well-known performers in its classy outdoor setting throughout the summer. That’s especially true of this Sunday, when jazz/pop star Norah Jones performs with special guest rhythm and blues icon Mavis Staples. Jones hit the big time with her Come Away With Me album over 20 years ago, and remains a successful recording artist. Her latest release is titled Visions. Staples does an awesome job of delivering the inspirational message on her new single "Worthy," and her new picture book Bridges Instead Of Walls comes out today via Penguin Random House.

Resident Embryo 2024, a new monthly residency at Montrose Saloon featuring The Embryos, kicks off this Thursday night. The Chicago-based indie rockers will have copies of their new album Selling What You Want To Buy, and will likely tap into their previous releases as well. Each Resident Embryo 2024 event will feature special guests, and for the July version, it’s power pop master Dolph Chaney and the twangy Americana band Human Errors. As with The Embryos, each of these acts can draw from albums they've released .

The Northman Riverwalk continues to give tourists and locals an opportunity to enjoy a variety of live music and food outdoors with an impressive view of downtown Chicago. This Thursday brings the Folk-A-Rock-A-Boom-Boom event starring Al Rose and Rachel Drew. A silly title for sure, but check out each of these performers on Bandcamp, and you’ll find well-crafted folk rock with intriguing lyrics. Friday brings the blues/Americana band Black Oil Brothers; and Saturday has a late afternoon show by pop/rock artist Ian Leith and an early evening set by indie rock/Americana band Deep Cricket Night. The Northman Riverwalk is located on the Chicago River at 233 N. Riverwalk.
