Upcoming Festivities


Soundtrack Serenade, a local tribute band that honors popular films with a mix of live music and opportunities for the audience to answer trivia questions, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dazed And Confused tonight at Montrose Saloon on Chicago’s north side. The fun starts at 8:30.

A Night Of Tom Petty with Phil Angotti And Friends will be staged at the Kenilworth Assembly Hall in Kenilworth, IL tomorrow (Thursday) from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.


Big Brother’s Vinyl, a local band with refined taste in the classic rock songs they cover, will be performing at Madcats in Palatine this Friday at 9:00 pm.


Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning for Dhani Harrison’s concert at the Omeara venue in London on October 18.


The actual Illinois Rock & Roll Museum On Route 66 is still under construction in Joliet, but the organization behind it will present its Third Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this Sunday at the Rialto Square Theatre. Jim Peterik, who was previously inducted for his work with Ides Of March and Survivor, will be on hand, along with Plain White T’s and vocalist Lia Caton. WGN-AM Bob Sirott will be back as the evening’s MC, and to be inducted in the Radio Personality category.


The Illinois Rock & Roll Museum On Route 66 will also stage a Hall Of Fame VIP Pre-Party on Saturday, featuring an impressive lineup of local musicians. Shoes will perform a 20-minute set with guests musicians Ric Menck on drums and Leroy Bocchieri on percussion and additional instrumentation. Others highlights include Phil Angotti, Casey McDonough, and Brad Elvis performing as a trio; One Of The Boyzz featuring Dirty Dan Buck; Ralph Covert with special guest Randy Riesen; and the Gen Fuze covers band. The evening will include a tribute to the late Cliff Johnson of Off Broadway, fame, and DJ Louzlounge spinning power pop records.


The Annapolis Songwriters Festival will be held this Thursday through Sunday in Annapolis, MD, and feature Blondie, Leann Rimes, Michelle Branch Patty Griffin, Marty Stuart, James McMurtry, and others. A Facebook post from sponsor JamBase promises, “four days and nights of music on boats, offbeat hotels, restaurants, bars, and the iconic Annapolis City Dock.” 


International Pop Overthrow - Arlington, Texas kicks off tomorrow at the BlackBox venue and will run through Saturday evening. Lannie Flowers is among the 15 acts scheduled to perform. This is the third year for Arlington, Texas, which makes it one of younger children in the IPO family. International Pop Overthrow was first staged in Los Angeles 22 years ago by founder David Bash, and he still brings a showcase there each year.


Riot Fest 2023 takes place this Friday through Sunday in Douglass Park. Headline acts include The Cure, Foo Fighters, and Death Cab For Cutie. The festival will also feature Kim Gordon, Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton, The Breeders, Warpaint, Smoking Popes, The Exploited, Tegan And Sara, White Reaper, Screaming Females, and Ani DiFranco.


Out Of Time: The Material Issue Story, director Balin Schneider’s documentary on the ill-fated Chicago-based power pop trio Material Issue, will be one of 11 movies screened when the very first CHIRP Music Film Festival  runs at the Davis Theater September 14 – 17. Out Of Time will serve as the event’s finale, and it’s the only screening that will be followed by “live performances by local bands,” according to the official website.


The CHIRP Radio 107.1FM event will also screen the music-related movies The Elephant 6 Recording Co.; Moonage Daydream; Repo Man; The Blues Brothers; Stony Island; Big Star - Nothing Can Hurt Me; Almost Famous; Aretha Franklin: Amazing Grace; Wattstax; and Fanny: The Right To Rock. Show times vary from afternoon to evening; Davis Theater is located at 4614 N. Lincoln Avenue.

        

The Rock-Expo takes place this Saturday in Aurora from noon to 5:00 pm at Two Brothers Roundhouse. The event will offer vinyl records, memorabilia, books and magazines. Author John Lyons will be on hand to discuss and sign copies of his book Joy and Fear: The Beatles Chicago and the Sixties. Admission is free.


Plan ahead to feed your head. The Record Collector and Mantle Brewery sponsored Fruits de Mer and Sendelica 20th Dream Of Dr Sardonicus International Festival Of Psychedelia will take place on August 2 – 4, 2024 at The Cellar Bar in Cardigan. Man, Astralasia/Mushroom, Sendelica, Pinhdar, Custard Flux, Moon Goose, The Fertility Cult, Babal, Z-Machine, Elfin Bow, SPWCI, Reuben’s Daughters and DJ Benway will be performing. All for the mind-blowing ticket price of £75.
