Incoming

The Chicago Cultural Center in downtown Chicago will be screening music-related films at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday night through October 3. Reel Music will feature flicks from countries around the world. The first installment, screening tomorrow night, is B-Movie: Lust and Sound In West Berlin, a look at the punk scene in West Berlin during the 1980s from directors Jorg A. Hoppe, Klaus Maeck, and Heiko Lange. The 92-minute documentary offers vintage clips of Joy Division, New Order, and Nick Cave. The Chicago Cultural Center warns that it has explicit content.

“Here Comes The Night” on Thursday. Androgynous Mustache, one of Chicago’s highly entertaining and inventive tribute bands, will turn its attention to Them this Thursday night, May 31 at Montrose Saloon. As any good Brit Invasion fan can tell you, Van Morrison led Them through “Gloria” before The Shadows Of Knight scored big with it in the USA.

Empower, a new opera that explores the experiences of growing up on the south side of Chicago, will be performed Thursday, May 31 at the Lyric Opera Of Chicago. The work features a script adapted by Ike Holter and music by Damien Sneed and is a collaboration with the Chicago Urban League. Tickets are $10–$20.

Chicago-based singer-songwriter Jared Rabin has a gig coming up this Friday, June 8 at SPACE in Evanston to mark the release of his new Wondering About The Weather seven-song EP. Rabin drew critical acclaim for his debut effort Something Left To Say in 2016, and melodic Americana tunes like “Back To You,” “If I Told You,” and “Road To No Regrets” on Weather are sure to continue that trend. The SPACE show starts at 10:00 p.m.

The garage rock band Vamos has a free show coming up this Friday, June 1 at the Cole’s club at 2338 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
