Weekend Reminders

Weekend Reminders on Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention; record release info; or concert tickets going on sale.

First, I’d like to welcome all those who’ve come to Chicago for the Lollapalooza music festival. Some of you might even be from other countries. Today’s post includes some suggestions to check out during your visit. 

 Lollapalooza opened today and will run through Sunday at Grant Park in downtown Chicago. The lineup includes Lorde; The Smashing Pumpkins; Sombr; Wet Leg; Suki Waterhouse; and Wolf Alice.

As noted here on previous posts, Vicki Peterson and John Cowsill have a month-long, six-date tour that kicks off tomorrow in Mahomet, IL and wraps on August 30 with a show at The Rhode Island Folk Festival in Riverside, RI. Plus, tickets go on sale tomorrow for the duo’s recently announced three October dates: on the 10th in Port Arkansas, TX; the 11th in Austin, TX; and the 14th at Avenel, NJ.

Stewart Copeland Have I Said Too Much? The Police, Hollywood And Other Adventures - An Evening Of Conversation With The Hall Of Fame Rock Star is coming to the North Shore Center in Skokie, IL tomorrow night.

Singer-songwriter Jules Klee will no doubt perform her new single “He Don’t Mean A Thing” when she shares a double bill with singer-guitarist Andrew Hoyt at 5:00 pm at the Tiny Tapp and Cafe  (55 W. Riverwalk South) in downtown Chicago this Sunday. “He Don’t Mean A Thing” is a heartfelt country ballad with a genuine twang arrangement.

“Designed By You,” a new single from long-time Chicago area bassist-vocalist Herb Eimerman and his grandson guitarist Gavin Eimerman, will be available as a free download tomorrow on the Egomaniac Music Bandcamp page. Australian musician/indie label founder Joe Algeri produced the song, along with mastering engineer: Oleg “Yorshoff” Yershovindie. Herb Eimerman describes the jangling pop song as “a celebration of music’s restorative power.”

Tickets are now on sale for the 93XRT Record Release Show for Michael McDermott and The Arsonists on August 11 at GMan Tavern in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood. The new album is titled Flowers From The Graveyard.

 Chicago-based musicians Phil Angotti and Friends will be backed by a string section during their Beatles tribute brunch at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn, IL this Sunday. The music starts at noon. These guys are masters at covering The Beatles, and a string section will make things even better.

Temp Wishes, a new band led by the perpetually busy Josh Chicoine of The M’s, will open for veteran guitarist Cory Hanson at The Hideout in Chicago this Sunday. Chicoine, along with fellow Temp Wishes members Edward Anderson; Colby Starck; and Glenn Rischke, recently recorded a single titled “Flash Fantasy.”

Chicago radio station WXRT’s Live From The XRT Concert Archives series continues tomorrow night at 9:00 pm with a May 16, 2001 concert performance by Buddy Guy at his Legends venue in Chicago. Live From The XRT Concert Archives can be heard on 93.1FM; 93XRT.com; and the Audacy app. on XRT show tomorrow on the radio?
