I noticed musician Jonathan Lea mentioned this in a Facebook post, and decided to check it out on the official Dacid Bowie Facebook page. An upcoming album titled David Bowie - The Shel Talmy Recordings will feature previously unreleased material produced by the legendary Talmy back in 1965. The album will be available on September 18 in CD, LP, digital, and limited-edition vinyl formats. The release will also feature extensive sleeve notes by musician/music historian (and Jonathan Lea’s bandmate in Tall Poppy Syndrome) Alec Palao.

It’s always fun to see live music outside in the summertime, especially in the scenic atmosphere of downtown Chicago. On that note, Cult Canyon, the latest band formed by Chicago-based vocalist-guitarist Josh Chicoine, and the guitar-driven local rockers Outronaut and will perform a free show at Tiny Tapp and Cafe (55 W. Riverwalk South) this Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00.

They started out with Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Spencer Davis Group respectively, and have gone on to create classic rock and roll in various ways over several decades. The Celebrating 2 Legends John Fogerty and Steve Winwood The Legacy Tour kicks off in Tinley Park, IL on September 3 and will include stops in Boston, MA; Atlantic City, NJ; Vienna, VA; and Charlotte, NC.

International Pop Overthrow founder David Bash will serve as Master Of Ceremonies when the 11th Annual Harry Nilsson Sing-A-Long takes place tonight at Molly Malone’s in Los Angeles. Several musicians will be paying tribute, including Steve Barton from Translator and solo artist/Maple Mars founding member Rick Hromadka. Admission is $15 for advance tickets and $20 at the door.

The 19th Annual Petaluma Music Festival will take this Saturday at the Petaluma Fairgrounds in Petaluma, CA. 10,000 Maniacs; The Smithereens; Cherry Poppin' Daddies; Alejandro Escovedo; and Chuck Prophet are among the acts scheduled to perform.

Chicago-based recording artists Naked Brunch and Radkey will perform on the Hill Stage at the Merchant Street MusicFest in Kankakee, IL this Saturday. The band will likely showcase songs from critically acclaimed 2025 debut album At the Humanoid Motel.

R.E.M. bassist-vocalist Mike Mills, violinist Robert McDuffie, and Allman Brothers (and other bands) keyboards player Chuck Leavell will join forces with the Orchestra Of St. Luke’s for A Night Of Georgia Music at Carnegie Hall in New York this Saturday. The one-night-only event will feature them covering Otis Redding; Ray Charles; The Allman Brothers; R.E.M.; The B-52’s; Outkast, and other acts. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at Carnegie Hall.

Whiting, Indiana’s annual Pierogie Fest will be held this Friday through Sunday, and some of the featured acts will be familiar to Chicago music fans. The Polkaholics bring a rock and roll sensibility to their ethnic songs; and Metropolly, led by Holly Senchak Dausch and Adam Dausch, is a frequent participant in the Hallowweekend shows at Montrose Saloon. Singer-guitarist Phil Angotti is a popular performer of original material and cover versions.

Keyon Harrold, the Grammy Award nominated trumpeter, vocalist and producer, has a performance coming up on Sat, July 25 at the Epiphany Center for the Arts on Chicago’s north side.

Toronto indie rock band Metric is currently on the road in support of its 10th album Romanticize The Drive. The tour, which features special guests Broken Social Scene and Stars, will include concerts in Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago (this Friday at the Aragon Ballroom), Boston, Philadelphia, and New York.

Big Hair Big Trouble, the vintage psychedelic country duo of Ellis Clark and Ary Paloma; Black Friars Social Club, a new alt rock quintet that includes Clark and guitarist-vocalist Mark Panick; and prog rock band McLuhan will conjure an adventurous triple bill at Martyrs’ this Friday night. Two days later, An Evening With 40,000 Headmen (Traffic Tribute) will take place at Martyrs’.
