Nelikona Cafe, the classy coffee and sweets venue that recently opened in downtown Palatine, is now hosting an Open Mic Night every Friday. There’s a piano on the premises and participants are welcome to bring their own instruments. The layout and decor, as well as the friendly staff, remind me of the popular Coco And Blu venue in Arlington Heights. Those interested in performing at Nelikona Cafe’s Open Mic can call 773-319-9437 or pop in for a visit at 45 N. Bothwell Street.
The single-named indie performer Juniper released a video for her new single “I Was Thinking About You” yesterday. Like several of the tracks on her most recent album She Steals Candy, it’s a likably off-kilter reflection on romance. “I Was Thinking AboutYou” available to download on her Bandcamp page.
Chris Pellnat, a Hudson, NY singer-songwriter who proclaims he “can’t really sing but I do it anyway,” on his Bandcamp page, has released a fun new single titled “Billie Eilish Won’t Follow Me.” Pellnat's clever lyrics and catchy arrangement guarantee success regardless of what he thinks of his vocal ability. Set to an exotic arrangement, this is really a fan letter to Billie and her brother Finneas: “Judge me for a thousand things/But not for liking these siblings.” Pellnat notes namedropping Eilish in his song title is also a savvy marketing plan. “To win the algorithm game./Don’t begrudge me the prize.”
