The Red Line Tap Goes Psychedelic

The Red Line Tap on Chicago's very north side is offering a psychedelic three-band lineup plus DJ Bashert tonight starting at 8:00 PM. While Hills, a New York-based band led by the coed duo Dave W. and Ego Sensation, has released a number of garage rock/psychedelic CDs since forming in 2005, and can be seen performing live in the recent Jim Jarmusch film Only Lovers Left Alive. White Hills will likely be playing songs from their latest release on Thrill Jockey Records Walks For Motorists.

Chicago quintet The Velcro Lewis Group describes its genre as 'funkadelic' but also taps into futuristic prog and psychedelic rock. They've released CDs on the Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records, and are veterans of the Chicago club scene. In addition to performing with White Hills, The Velcro Lewis Group has also shared the stage with the New York duo Crushed Out.

Tomorrow The Moon is the act I'm most familiar with in this lineup, having reviewed this Chicago trio's EPs for the Illinois Entertainer and Broken Hearted Toy. There's an adventurous sci-fi feel to their self-described 'progadelic' music, particularly on "He Saw Red" and "French Goodbye." Tomorrow The Moon collaborated with artist Tom McKeon for an eye-popping video for "Miles Of Jenny" from their brand new release Blow Mind Blow.

Admission for the show is $12 at the door.
