Incoming

Hung Up On A Dream
, director/musician Robert Schwartzman’s 2023 documentary covering The Zombies’ entire career, will come to American theaters this May. The film features the British Invasion band’s most recent live performances, along with archival footage. In a related event, the Chicago-based HoZac Books and HoZac Records will have a ZOMBIES Book Launch at Delilah’s in Lincoln Park tomorrow night.

Times and Seasons - The Rise and Fall and Rise of The Zombies was written by the band’s official biographer Robin Platts, with a Forward by Bangles singer-guitarist and long-time fan Susanna Hoffs. In addition to examining the band’s music in detail, there are interviews with five band members. Times and Seasons is also packed with black and white photos and graphics.

As for tomorrow’s Chicago area bash, a recent HoZac Facebook post promises videos and music, as well as a set of live music by local singer-guitarist Phil Angotti. I saw Angotti perform a Zombies tribute at a club a while back, and he definitely knows his way around the band’s material. ZOMBIES Book Launch starts at 7:00 pm; Delilah’s is located at 2769 N. Lincoln Avenue.

Chicago power pop musician Dolph Chaney has a solo gig this Saturday afternoon at Bernstein’s NY Deli in Homewood, IL. He’ll perform from noon to 2:00 pm. On April 17 at Montrose Saloon, Dolph Chaney & The Phins will share a bill with two local indie rock bands: Sonny Veneer, and LaRue DeVille. Longtime fans of the adventurous act Red Wigglers should take note that LaRue DeVille is the name the band goes by these days.

Vocalist-guitarist Michael Steven Cohen will perform songs from the Great American Songbook this Friday at Tuscan Market in Arlington Heights; and then at Chicago Prime Italian in Schaumburg this Saturday. Cohen performs at these two places on a regular basis, so they must think he's pretty good.

Peter Asher, who was half of the British Invasion duo Peter and Gordon before moving on to a highly successful career as a producer, has also continued to perform as a solo act. His multimedia show A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond comes to The Old Town School Of Folk Music May 16.
