Weekend Reminders

Graphic from the official R.E.M. Facebook page.

Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention.

R.E.M. is one of the 90 bands that have donated a song to the Good Music To Lift Los Angeles charity album. R.E.M.’s contribution is a previously unreleased live version of “Electrolite;” other artists involved include Jeff Tweedy; Friko; Neko Case; TV On The Radio; Manchester Orchestra; Courtney Barnett; Interpol; The Postal Service; and Death Cab for Cutie. Priced at $20.25, Good Music To Lift Los Angeles will only be available on Bandcamp for 24 hours starting Friday (February 7) at 12:01 am PT. As noted in an R.E.M. Facebook post, 100% of net proceeds will go to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Calfunds Wildfire Recovery Fund. Bandcamp will donate its fees to MusiCares.

Depending on when you read this, you could still catch PureSoul’s Bob Marley’s 80th Birthday Celebration at 7:30 tonight at City Winery Chicago. The event will celebrate the memory of the legendary Jamaican musician by “pairing PureSoul musicians with some of the greatest reggae masters in Chicago.”

This year’s Chicago Theatre Week event started today and will run through February 16. Several of the city’s best-known venues will offer discount prices on comedies, dramas, musicals, improv, and concerts. Participants include Goodman Theatre; A Red Orchid Theatre; Lookingglass Theatre; Chicago Shakespeare Company; and Steppenwolf Theatre.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 am for The Pretenders’ show on May 1 at the Wynn Theater in Las Vegas.

The WXRT Live From The XRT Concert Archives series continues tomorrow night with a performance by The Cure originally recorded at The Vic Theatre in Chicago back in the year 2000. The concert will be available at 93.1FM; 93XRT.com; and on the Audacy app.

The suburban theater company Music On Stage will perform Fiddler On The Roof at Cutting Hall in Palatine, IL starting this Saturday. It will run through February 23. Music On Stage has presented several productions at Cutting Hall over the years.

The eagerly anticipated third album from Inhaler is being released tomorrow. The Irish band is about to embark on a world tour in support of Open Wide. Other new efforts dropping tomorrow include Universe Room from Guided By Voices and the self-titled debut from Sharon Van Etten And The Attachment.
