Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention.
Solo artist and New Pornographers band member Neko Case will kick off her 2025 book tour for The Harder I Fight The More I Love You memoir with a appearance this Saturday in London with fellow author/musician Kathy Valentine of The Go-Go’s.
Vocalist Kate Fagan is probably best known for her years fronting the Chicago-based ska band Heavy Manners, but the new single she has coming out tomorrow reaches further back to her early punk days. “Go Faster” bristles with high energy and a rebellious spirit, making it an interesting follow-up to her previous single, the melodic and mid-tempo “2 Good 2 B True.”
As noted on the Hey Nonny Facebook page, Jim Peterik’s shows scheduled for last night and tonight at the Arlington Heights venue have been postponed due to a few band members having the flu.
The five-day indie music festival Tomorrow Never Knows is back for its 20th year. Performances began last night and will run through Sunday at GMan Tavern; Hideout; Color Club; Schubas; Sleeping Village; Lincoln Hall; Metro; and Judson And Moore.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the outdoors concert by Son Volt at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn, IL on May 10.
Inhaler will release a new single “A Question Of You” tomorrow. It’s from the Irish band’s next album Open Wide, which is scheduled to drop February 7. That’s also the day Inhaler kicks off a major European tour.
20/20 will release Back To California, its first new album in 25 years, tomorrow on SpyderPop Records. It’s been even longer since the Los Angeles quartet gave the world a power pop masterpiece with its self-titled debut in 1979.
Singer-songwriter Coley Kennedy from the Chicago-based alt-rock band Welcome to Ashley and comic alt rock band The Buddies has a solo debut titled Neptune Blue coming out tomorrow. The catchy first single, “(We Are) Born to Lose” finds Kennedy working in an atmospheric vein that calls to mind Richard Butler from The Psychedelic Furs.
