There’s a chance The Handcuffs’ show at the LiveWire Lounge this Friday will include the two new songs they recently recorded at Kingsize Sound Labs. That’s just my guess, but if not, they have their most recent and very-well-received Burn The Rails album and three earlier releases to draw from. The power pop/punk band Woolworthy and Celtic folk rockers The Avondale Ramblers will also be on the bill. LiveWire is located at 3394 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago.
You should go. 312unes will honor one of rock and roll’s most important bands by presenting an International Clash Day event tonight at Gman Tavern featuring the Chicago-based Clash tribute band Guns And Ammunition. The music starts at 7:00 pm and admission is free. Gman is located at 3740 N. Clark. Here’s an old but still inspiring quote from Clash member Joe Strummer: “I think people ought to know that we’re anti-fascist, we’re anti-violence, we’re anti-racist, and we’re pro-creative. We’re against ignorance.”
Triple will likely perform both sides of its catchy double single “You’re A Star” and “No” when the power pop trio kicks off a three-act event at Burlington Bar tomorrow night at 3425 W. Fullerton in Chicago. Leon, The Bandit (not a crook but a funk/indie rock/be-bop quartet) and headline act (not film) Eraserhead are the other acts performing. The music starts at 8:30.
Several Chicago area musicians will gather at Martyrs’ on Lincoln Avenue on February 24 for the annual My Sweet George George Harrison birthday tribute concert. The event will start at 7:00 pm, with Ellis Clark (Epicycle, Social Act) and Ary Paloma (Amazing Heeby Jeebies) serving as hosts. Clark and Paloma have also brought their My Sweet George show to Fest For Beatles Fans - Chicago a number of times. If previous years are any indication, the selection of Harrison material performed will range from hit singles to deep tracks and rarities. It’s also fun seeing musicians from different groups join together on stage. The event will help the MusiCares nonprofit charity organization.
Bang A Gong will present a four-act evening of live rock tomorrow night at Montrose Saloon on Chicago’s north side. The Real Time; indie/druid rockers whitewolfsonicprincess; Thomas Pace Band, and No Hero will be performing. The music starts at 7:00 pm.
Be sure to bring roses. They’ll be a bit early, but the highly regarded Americana band Over the Rhine, led by Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler, has two performances of Infamous Love Songs: An Over the Rhine Valentine’s Concert coming up in its home state of Ohio. The first is this Friday at the Lincoln Theatre in Columbus and the second is on Saturday at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton.
