Incoming

I usually do a weekly Incoming post on Monday or Tuesday, or occasionally Wednesday. This time around, it’s been pushed to Thursday due to my August, Rock She Must post; a sudden freelance proofreading assignment; and a great deal of time spent looking over the query, synopsis, and first 10 pages of someone else’s mystery novel. I have an unofficial writing partner and we occasionally swap copy in order to get a second opinion on each other’s fiction. As for my own novel, I have another virtual agent pitch coming up this Saturday, so wish me luck.

Unfortunately, my hectic schedule prevented me from accepting an offer to deliver a State Of Current Rock And Roll address at Lollapalooza this afternoon. Okay, there was no such offer, but Lollapalooza did open today and runs through Sunday in Grant Park. Tonight’s performers include Carly Rae Jepsen; Portugal, The Man; and Billie Eilish. Upcoming performers include Kendrick Lamar; The 1975; Red Hot Chili Peppers; The Revivalists; and Lana Del Rey.

Incidentally, I initially forgot to mention Lollapalooza in my August, Rock She Must listings, but have since added it. I may add more listings to August, Rock She Must as the month goes on.

International Pop Overthrow, the traveling showcase of power pop and indie rock, returns to its birthplace tomorrow for a nine-day run at the Redwood Bar in Los Angeles.

Chicago-based power pop band (and IPO - Chicago veterans) Thrift Store Halo have just announced they’ll release a new six-song EP titled Back To Good in November. There will be a record release show on December 7 at Ballydoyle in Downers Grove.

Pictures Of You: A Compilation Of Covers Of Songs By The Cure, a new multi-act tribute album from the UK record label and culture webzine God Is In The TV, will be available to download on Bandcamp tomorrow. I pre-ordered a copy, based on how well God Is In The TV did with its R.E.M. tribute album, and Im looking forward to those Cure covers.
