Incoming

Great Moments In Vinyl, a rotating collection of area musicians devoted to honoring some of the best LPs in rock history, will be performing Elvis Costello’s first two albums at Martyrs’ on Lincoln Avenue tomorrow night, December 16. If you check out the Great Moments In Vinyl Facebook page, you’ll find clips of them playing Costello numbers at a previous gig.

Beat Kitchen on Belmont Avenue will also be presenting local bands honoring cutting-edge English rock, when Primary covers The Cure and Still Il covers Morrissey and The Smiths this Friday, December 17. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

For some high-quality original Chicago rock, check out The Josh Caterer Trio with opening act Sunshine Boys at SPACE in Evanston tomorrow night, December 16. Both acts feature musicians with extensive experience on the music scene.

One way or another, the show must go on. Long-time Blondie drummer Clem Burke will be filling in for Gina Schock for six gigs by The Go-Go’s. Earlier today, he posted a clip of himself with the band at The Whiskey on the Sunset Strip. I realize I could have written ‘the show must go-go on’ but I thought a double wordplay was too much for such a short sentence.

Clem’s buddy, Chicago’s own Brad Elvis, will be on stage with The Handcuffs this Saturday evening at Montrose Saloon. In addition to co-leading The Handcuffs with vocalist-guitarist Chloe F. Orwell, Brad Elvis has also been drumming with The Romantics for a number of years. Saturday night’s Montrose Saloon entertainment will also include two other notable local acts, Go Time! and The Spindles.

Wilco founding member and solo artist Jeff Tweedy will be performing with a full band at Metro on Chicago’s north side next week on December 22 and 23. As noted on the venue’s Facebook page, tickets are almost all sold out for the first night.

Congratulations to Coco And Blu Cafe on celebrating its second anniversary this Sunday night, December 19. The Arlington Heights venue serves coffee and tea lattes, bakery goods, soups and sandwiches, and wine and cocktails in a hip, positive environment. Coco And Blu also occasionally schedules live entertainment. It would be great to see more of that, along with the occasional art or photography exhibits.
