The 49th Anniversary Edition of Elvis Costello’s My Aim Is True five-CD box set will have 104 tracks, and half of them will be previously unreleased material. Costello’s groundbreaking debut featured songs such as “Watching The Detectives,” “Miracle Man,” “Alison,” “Less Than Zero,” and “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes.” The anniversary issue is priced at $109.98, and will be released on October 2nd.
Local indie rockers The Phil Angotti Band will perform at Martyrs’ on Chicago’s north side this Friday night. Angotti is well known around town for his tribute shows, but this time out, he’ll be performing original material from his impressive albums. Veteran Chicago musician Scott Bennett will join him onstage, and do a few of his own songs. The opening act is Venus, Darling, featuring singer-songwriters Katie Todd and Betsy Ade.
Kelleher’s Irish Pub And Eatery in Peoria, IL will present a one-night street concert tomorrow featuring BIIRD, the all-female Irish folk music band led by the acclaimed harp and banjo player Lisa Canny. The Irish music band Roundstone Buskers will perform as the opening act. This will be a pre-fest event for the Peoria Irish Fest taking place this weekend.
Chicago’s own 21st Century Druid Music / Celtic Blues band whitewolfsonicprincess has a gig coming up this Friday at the Picnic Wine And Provisions venue on Sheridan Road on the city’s north side. A recent Facebook post states the opening act will be Victor Sanders “on Mystery Guitar.” Picnic Wine And Provisions is located at 7301 N. Sheridan Road.
The indie rock trio Sunshine Boys, featuring Dag Juhlin; Jackie Schimmel, and Gerald Dowd, will perform tomorrow night at The Gazebo as part of a free outdoors concert series in Welles Park in Chicago. Sunshine Boys have given us several top notch songs on their albums.
Singer-guitarist Scott Niekelski, who’s launched a successful solo career in addition to fronting the popular Go Time! band, has an acoustic show this Saturday at Buckledown Brewing in Lyons, IL.
Singer-songwriter Jules Klee will no doubt perform her new single “He Don’t Know A Thing” when she shares a double bill with the Chicago-based country band Blue Rose at 5:00 pm this Sunday at the Tiny Tapp and Cafe (55 W. Riverwalk South) in downtown Chicago.
Following the success of its Lin Brehmer Scholars Fund Benefit at Metro yesterday, radio station WXRT is now offering Lin Brehmer Your Best Friend in the Whole World Charity Merchandise via its website. It’s a great way for those of us who weren’t able to attend the benefit to still support the Lin Brehmer Scholars Fund. Brehmer developed a large and loyal following during his several years at WXRT.
