Deck The Hall With Holiday Garland

Full disclosure: I was a member of the Famous In The Future comedy group for several years.

Although Cary Grant never did say the line “Judy, Judy, Judy” in any of his films, its sort of an apt description of what Famous In The Future has planned for this weekend. The long-running comedy group will set aside its usual unrelated series of skits format and perform a 90-minute show titled A Judy Christmas on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at The Den Theatre. The concept involves transporting a live audience back to the days when variety shows ruled night-time TV on the three major networks.

This one has a holiday theme and its host, singer-actress Judy Garland, is determined to put a smile on America’s face despite lingering sorrow from the recent John F. Kennedy assassination. She’ll be assisted by celebrity guests Jack Jones and Mel Tormé, as well as some singing ghosts. Cast member Desiree Burcum portrays Garland and describes the show as a festive romp. “The audience enters a ‘live’ CBS studio in 1963 and they get to experience the behind-the-scenes madness and a glimpse into Judy's own mind as she tries to produce this twisted Christmas special.” Burcum has portrayed Barbie and Edith Bunker in previous FIF productions. The comedy group’s fans will likely remember it previously performed A Judy Christmas in 2022. “We’re having so much fun doing the show again!” Burcum added.

Her fellow cast members are Frank Carr, Tina Teske, Michael Hora, Pat McDonald, and Michael Bratta. A Judy Christmas runs from 8:00 to 9:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 3:00 to 4:30 pm on Sunday. The Den Theatre is located at 1331 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Ticket prices range from $23.25 to $28.00. Anyone interested in attending should consider making a reservation since the show sold out last year.
