The Essential Preview - Books section in the February issue of MOJO notes that author Bob Stanley has book titled Bee Gees: Children Of The World coming out in June. “It’s an extraordinary story of one of the most successful pop groups in history, and I didn’t feel it had been told properly,” Stanley is quoted as saying.


A Night For Tina, a benefit to help Tina Juhlin cope with costs while she undergoes cancer treatment, will be held at Simon’s Tavern on Chicago’s north side on March 15. The evening will feature performances by EXPO ’76, The Webstirs, Gerald Dowd, Phil Angotti, and Sunshine Boys (featuring Gerald Dowd). The event will run from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. 

 

The Linda Retrospective, an exhibit of Linda McCartney’s photography, opened at The Center For Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ this past Saturday and will run through August 5. Paul McCartney’s 1964: Eyes Of The Storm book of photographs is coming out in June. Its publication coincides with an exhibit running from June 28 through October 1 at the National Portrait Gallery in London.


Golden Years Whop Whop Whop. Congratulations to Chicago’s David Bowie tribute band Sons Of The Silent Age on a decade of performing terrific shows around town and elsewhere. They’ll celebrate that milestone with a 10th Anniversary Show on May 13 at Metro. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Sons Of The Silent Age are among the acts that will be performing at the David Bowie World Fan Convention in New York City taking place on the weekend of June 17 and 18

.

Abbey Road Studios in London is holding its fourth annual Equalise - Driving Balance In The Music Industry event in its Studio Three this Saturday. The festival aims to help women succeed in music-related careers by presenting various panel talks and workshops. Free tickets are available through the website, and Equalise will be live streamed on Abbey Road’s YouTube channel.


The Illinois Rock & Roll Museum’s second annual Women Who Rock Illinois event will be held this Friday, March 3, at the 115 Bourbon Street venue in Merrionette Park. Radio personality Hannah Brummer will serve as host, and Cathy Richardson and Anne Harris will be the headliners.


The Flat Five have a gig with Lincoln Barr this Saturday at SPACE in Evanston.


Power pop bands Go Time!, The Spindles, and Vinto Van Go (no relation to the Van Go band fronted by Davey Sippel) will perform at Q Bar in Darien, IL this Saturday night.


Congratulations to Lucy Holloway for winning the Chicago Sun-Times “Bringing Chicago’s Voices Together" art contest with her colorful piece “All In Harmony.” And thanks to the Sun-Times for showing so many of the entries in this past Sunday’s edition. Holloway’s winner will be enlarged and printed on an exterior wall of the Salt Shed music venue. Among the other entries shown in the paper, I particularly liked the one by Carmen C. showing the Morton Salt girl carrying a guitar and keyboards.
