Weekend Reminders

Weekend Reminders on Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention; record release info; or concert tickets going on sale.

Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy have twelve Celebrate The 40th Anniversary Of R.E.M.’s Lifes Rich Pageant shows coming up in September, and they’d like their fans to know tickets are going fast. Two of the American dates (Chicago, IL and Makuoketa, IA) are sold out, while tickets are still available for the Detroit, MI show. There are LOW TIX alerts for three of the European shows. Shannon and Narducy will once again be accompanied by Dag Juhlin; John Stirratt; Vijay Tellis-Nayak; and Jon Wurster on this tour.

Dag Juhlin is also a founding member and the chief songwriter for Sunshine Boys, and the Chicago-based indie rock band has a gig coming up on November 22 at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights, IL. Sunshine Boys have two superb albums to choose songs from, and most likely some new material. Tickets for that show, as well as for The Claudettes on November 11, will soon be available from the Hey Nonny website.

Los Angeles-based singer Juniper and her radio personality/musician father Michael Shelley have a gig coming up this Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. Back in February of 2023, I posted a favorable review of Juniper’s She Steals Candy album, which featured her performing a mix of lost nuggets from the mid-1960s; along with covers of  The Bangles, The Go-Go’s, Amy Rigby, and other artists.

Rock on through the night with four odd-named acts. Montrose Saloon on Chicago’s north side will offer a quadruple bill of Sleepersound; Slow Teeth; Human Errors; and Phil Yates And The Affiliates tomorrow night. The music starts at 7:30.

Happy Birthday to power pop musician Dolph Chaney, who’s well known at Montrose Saloon and other Chicago clubs for his solo shows as well as for performances with his band The Phins. Chaney’s albums have been known to show up on Best-Of-The-Year lists on various websites.

Chicago radio station WXRT’s Live From The XRT Concert Archives series continues tomorrow night at 9:00 pm with a July 23, 2014 concert performance by Jack White at The Chicago Theatre. Live From The XRT Concert Archives can be heard on 93.1FM; 93XRT.com; and the Audacy app.
