Weekend Reminders


Weekend Reminders on Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention; record release info; or concert tickets going on sale.

Local indie rockers The Phil Angotti Band will perform at Martyrs’ in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood tomorrow night. Angotti is well known in these parts for his tribute shows (Beatles, Bee Gees, Zombies) but this time out, he’ll be performing original material from his impressive albums. Veteran Chicago musician Scott Bennett will join him onstage, and do a few of his own songs. The opening act, Venus, Darling features singer-songwriters Katie Todd and Betsy Ade.

The Roger Daltry - A Great Night Out! North American Tour will kick off in Mesa, AZ this Sunday and wrap up on September 29 in Medford, MA. Fans in the Midwest can choose New Lenox, IL on September 12 or Milwaukee, WI on September 15.

Pravda Records recording artists The Handcuffs will perform from 7:00 to 8:30 pm tomorrow at the FitzGerald’s Patio in Berwyn, IL. The indie rock band will have t-shirts, vinyl and CDs for sale. Admission is free; tips are appreciated.


International Pop Overthrow - San Diego takes place tomorrow and Saturday at the Black Cat Bar. Chicago-based singer-guitarist Ralph Covert of The Bad Examples performs tomorrow, along with Tamar Berk and four other acts. Saturday’s seven-act showcase includes Suite 100; The Colour Monday; and The Glimmer Stars.


Singer-guitarist Scott Niekelski, who’s launched a successful solo career in addition to fronting the popular Go Time! band, has an acoustic show this Saturday at Buckledown Brewing Lyons, IL.


Singer-songwriter Jules Klee will no doubt perform her new single “He Don’t Know A Thing” when she shares a double bill with the Chicago-based country band Blue Rose at 5:00 pm this Sunday at the Tiny Tapp and Cafe  (55 W. Riverwalk South) in downtown Chicago.


The Peoria Irish Fest taking place this weekend at NE Water Street in Peoria, IL will include live music, food vendors, Highland Games, street vendors, and a Cultural Village. Tickets are available via the event’s official website.


Chicago’s own 21st Century Druid Music / Celtic Blues band whitewolfsonicprincess has a gig coming up tomorrow night  at the Picnic Wine And Provisions venue on Sheridan Road on the city’s north side. A recent Facebook post states the opening act will be Victor Sanders “on Mystery Guitar.” Picnic Wine And Provisions is located at 7301 N. Sheridan Road.


Chicago radio station WXRT’s Live From The XRT Concert Archives series continues tomorrow night at 9:00 pm with a November 3, 1996 concert performance by Los Lobos at Metro in Chicago. Live From The XRT Concert Archives can be heard on 93.1FM; 93XRT.com; and the Audacy app.
