Join together, lend a hand. The Music Moves Mountains Foundation, a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity organization that uses music to assist people experiencing medical issues, will present A Tribute To Keith Moon all ages event on November 1 at Central Machine Brewery Works in Austin, Texas. Special guests will include Gregg Bissonette; Stephen Perkins; Michael Jerome; and Keith’s daughter Mandy Moon. In addition to live performances, there will be a silent auction to benefit the Music Moves Mountains Foundation. This year would have been Keith Moon’s 80th birthday.


Theater Of The Mind, the imaginative adventure crafted by David Byrne from Talking Heads and writer Mala Gaonkar, has been extended through October 25 at the Reid Murdoch Building at 333 N. LaSalle Street in downtown Chicago. Theater Of The Mind is a Goodman Theatre production.


The Smashing Pumpkins will embark on The Rats In A Cage Tour a little less than a month from now with a concert at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 19. Billed as Two Unique Sets Celebrating Mellon Collie At 30 And Nearly Four Decades Of Unruly Hits And Dark Treasures, the tour will include an October 14 gig in Chicago at United Center. Other cities on the tour include Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Hamilton, ON; Montreal, QC; Madison, WI; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; and Denver, CO. See the official website for all the tour dates.


Kopi Cafe on Chicago’s north side will host a Songwriters Circle featuring Carla Hayden and James Moeller from the adventurous local band whitewolfsonicprincess starting at 6:00 pm tomorrow. Chicago musician Al Rose will serve as host, and also perform songs. Kopi Cafe is located at 5317 N. Clark Street.


Rock on through the night with four odd-named acts. Montrose Saloon on Chicago’s north side will offer a quadruple bill of Sleepersound; Slow Teeth; Human Errors; and Phil Yates And The Affiliates this Friday. The music starts at 7:30.


Chicago singer-songwriter Paige Kizer has released a single in advance of her upcoming new album Unconditional. Available on Spotify, “Your Voice” offers an uplifting message embellished with a three-woman choir and lush arrangement. Kizer will likely showcase more songs from Unconditional at her all-ages matinee show on Sept. 27 at the Epiphany Center for the Arts in Chicago.


Trap Door Theatre, an award winning company that has performed in venues throughout Europe as well as in its hometown of Chicago, will stage Andrei Kureichik’s eccentric play The Man Who Fell with the Rain starting on September 3. The play was translated by John Freedman, adapted and directed by Kay Martinovich; and the cast includes former Mary-Arrchie Theatre artistic director Rich Cotovsky as the Old Man with Enormous Wings. 


Los Angeles-based singer Juniper and her radio personality/musician father Michael Shelley have a gig coming up this Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. Back in February of 2023, I posted a favorable review of Juniper’s She Steals Candy album, which featured her performing a mix of lost nuggets from the mid-1960s; along with covers of  The Bangles, The Go-Go’s, Amy Rigby, and other artists.
