Weekend Reminders

Weekend Reminders on Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention, or concert tickets going on sale.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the Roger Daltry - A Great Night Out! North American Tour. The first stop will be Mesa, AZ on August 23 and the tour will wrap up on September 29 in Medford, MA. Fans in the Midwest can choose New Lenox, IL on September 12 or Milwaukee, WI on September 15. Or maybe go to both.

Chicago-based singer-songwriters Al Rose and Rachel Drew will headline a concert this Saturday at Jarvis Square Pottery in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Steve Doyle, John Szymanski, and Steve Hashimoto will also perform at this event. Doors open at 7:00 pm.

Depending on when you read this, you could still see Ivy at the Park West in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood tonight. The show is part of the Ivy - Traces Of You - 2026 Tour, which is named after a recent album of previously unreleased Ivy songs recorded by band members Adam Schlesinger, Andy Chase, and Dominique Durand between 1995 and 2012. Sadly, we lost Adam Schlesinger to COVID-19 in 2020.

The Peter Asher Everywhere Man documentary, which explores the multi-decade career of the English musician and producer, will be screened at the Cinetopia Film Festival in Ann Arbor, MI tomorrow night at the State Theatre. Several major stars are featured in the film, including James Taylor; Linda Ronstadt; Carole King; Paul McCartney; and Robin Williams. Peter Asher Everywhere Man will also be shown in select theaters on June 19.

Happy Birthday to Drew Richardson, a unique solo performer who proudly bills himself as a fool, and entertains audiences with juggling, mime, and nonstop sight gags. I first saw Richardson at the Mary-Arrchie Theater’s Abbie Hoffman Died For Our Sins festival back in 1989. According to his Facebook page, he’ll soon start a Kickstarter campaign to sell Drew's Fool Tools creativity cards, which he recommends for artists, teachers, and entrepreneurs.

Tickets are now on sale for An Evening of Words and Music with Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera with Terri Hemmert on May 18 at Evanston SPACE. Long-time WXRT DJ and avid Roxy Music fan. Also, tickets will soon be available for the Peter Himmelman at Evanston SPACE concert on August 23.

The Zombies’ lead vocalist Colin Blunstone still draws rave reviews 60+ years after the band emerged from the British Invasion scene. He’ll likely find more critical acclaim during his UK Believe In Miracles Tour, which continues this week with shows in Milton Keynes; Manchester; Stroud; Gateshead; and Glasgow. The tour runs through May 28.

Four Chicago area music acts will perform at the Concert For A Cause event at The Outta Space venue in Berwyn, IL this Saturday. It’s a benefit for sarah’s inn, an organization whose mission is “to improve the lives of those affected by domestic violence and to break the cycle of violence for future generations.” Big Hair Big Trouble, Phil Angotti, The Nobodies, and Torpedo Los will provide the entertainment. Admission is a donation at the door, or you can use the barcode on The Outta Space social media post.

Phil Angotti And Friends have performed a number of Beatles Brunches at City Winery Chicago and they’ll be back there at noon this Sunday. Angotti has worked with several musicians over the years, and for this gig, his Friends are Tony Richards, John Bowes, Emily Marlow, Tom Ryan, Blair Holmes, and according to his Facebook post, “a special mystery guest.”

Tellin’ Tales Theatre will present Divercity: Our Lives Are Works Of Art this weekend at the Goodman Theatre/Alice Center for Education and Engagement in downtown Chicago. The show, which involves six writers, performers and artists, will demonstrate “that disabilities bring out our creativity in whatever we do.” The shows start at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday and at 2:00 pm on Sunday. The theatre is located at 170 N. Dearborn; tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for students and people with disabilities.
