Weekend Reminders

Recently, Thursday posts have focused on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend.

The Zombies’ 2024 Begin Here Festival, which takes place tomorrow through Sunday in St. Albans in the UK, will include a Tribute To Rod Argent. The band’s longtime keyboards player/songwriter gave up live performances after experiencing a stroke earlier this year, but plans to continue recording with his mates. The tribute will include special guests Russ Ballard, Danny Mattin, Millies Riquelme, Hugh Grundy and Chris White. The opening act ARC features Russell, Anja, and Cara Rodford, the son and granddaughters of the late Jim Rodford, who performed with Argent, The Kinks, and The Zombies.

The CHIRP Record Fair And Other Delights event will return to Plumbers Union Hall at 1340 W. Washington in Chicago this Saturday for its 20th anniversary. As always, this event offers rows of vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, and music related merchandise. There will be live bands and DJs, along with beer and food vendors. The CHIRP Record Fair & Other Delights is a benefit for CHIRP Radio, and the independent station is hinting this might be the last one they will hold.

The Fleshtones are coming to FitzGerald’s in Berwyn tomorrow. The long-time, critically acclaimed garage rockers will no doubt feature songs from their latest, supernatural-influenced album Face Of The Screaming Werewolf. That evening will also feature a pair of Chicago area favorites, New Duncan Imperials (celebrating their 35th year) and The Handcuffs.

International Pop Overthrow - New York kicks off tonight at The Parkside Lounge in Manhattan, and will run through Sunday.

Six Stories Up On The Campaign Trail - A Student Council Calamity, the latest theatrical production from Tellin’ Tales Theatre, will run Friday through Sunday this weekend and next at the Filament Theatre. As stated on its website, Tellin’ Tales Theatre’s mission is “to shatter barriers between the disabled and non-disabled worlds through the transformative power of personal story.” Filament Theatre is located at 4041 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
