Sons Of The Silent Age, Chicago’s impressive David Bowie tribute band, just announced a Celebrating 50 Years Of David Bowie’s Young Americans And More show coming to Metro on January 11, 2025. Critically acclaimed actor Michael Shannon, who frequently shares a bill with Sons Of The Silent Age, will perform that night as John Lennon. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Metro is located at 3730 N. Clark Street.

Today is the official release date for long-time journalist/public relations specialist Cary Baker’s first book, Down on the Corner: Adventures in Busking & Street Music. That same issue of the Chicago Tribune includes critic John Warner’s positive take on writer Peter Ames Carlin’s new book The Name Of This Band Is R.E.M. Warner notes, “Readers may experience what I did, a fresh appreciation for the oddness and originality of the group that truly sounded unlike anyone else when they hit the scene the early 1980s.”
Congratulations to The Spindles on being chosen as the first act to perform at the Des Plaines Theatre’s new Indie Rock Night series. That show will take place on December 17. The Arcada in St. Charles, IL will also have Indie Rock Nights. An earlier announcement from both venues (they’re under the same management) stated acts should have 30 minutes of original indie, alternative, folk, or country material to be considered.
The Ripley’s covers band will bring their repertoire of Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, and other well-known rock acts to The Toadstool Pub in Highwood, IL this Saturday night. The music starts at 8:00 pm, and there’s no cover charge.
City Winery Chicago has announced a number of upcoming shows, including EXTC - Terry Chambers And Friends on May 1, 2025. Chambers was the longtime drummer for the critically acclaimed and beloved English band XTC. Tickets will go on sale this Friday.
The English Beat will be performing at City Winery Chicago on December 8 and 9, 2024.
The very fun and completely unpredictable covers band EXPO ’76 will perform at its unofficial home base Simon’s Tavern on Chicago’s north side tomorrow night.
Tickets for the first night (November 17) of this year’s Jeff Buckley Tribute at Uncommon Ground have sold out and the venue has issued a low ticket alert for the second and final show on November 18. Uncommon Ground is located at 3800 N. Clark Street on Chicago’s north side.
