Sons Of The Silent Age will bring their always impressive David Bowie tribute show to the Marion Cultural And Civic Center in Marion, IL on December 8, along with garage rockers Acumen, the band. Looking forward, Sons Of The Silent Age have a benefit on January 13 at Metro. It’s titled David Bowie: Future Legend, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the NorthShore HealthSystem Foundation to help people overcome cancer. Actor-musician Michael Shannon will also take part, playing the songs of Brian Eno.
Super Creeps, another Chicago-based David Bowie tribute band, and their special guests My Biggest Thrills, will help Brit rock fans ring in the new year at Outta Space in Berwyn. Super Creeps will perform a couple sets of Bowie material, and My Biggest Thrills will honor The Mighty Lemon Drops, along with other new wave acts. The celebrating starts at 8:00 pm.
It’s nice to see the Benefit Concert For Denny Laine being held tomorrow night at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA has sold out. Laine was a founding member of The Moody Blues and Paul McCartney’s Wings, and is currently dealing with serious health issues. The event is being organized by musician Alex Jules, a longtime member of Laine’s touring band, in association with The Wild Honey Foundation. In addition to Jules, Denny Laine Band members Erik Paparozzi and Brian Pothier will perform. Special guests include Susanna Hoffs, Denny Seiwell, Laurence Juber, Joey Molland, Micky Dolenz, Puddles Pity Party, Peter Asher, Joe Bouchard, Neil Hamburger, Tim Heidecker, Paul Shaffer, Jeremy Clyde, and Albert Lee. KLOS Breakfast With The Beatles DJ Chris Carter will serve as host. Tickets are still available to view this tribute via streaming, and donations are being accepted at Laine’s GoFundMe page.
Remembering Elliott Smith, a tribute to the indie rock singer-songwriter we lost 20 years ago, will take place next Sunday, December 3 at Montrose Saloon. It kicks off at 6:00 pm and will feature Lydia Cash Music, Hoover and Harley and The Boys; Niko Twist Action and some of the venue’s regular performers.
Singer-guitarist Carla Olson of The Textones fame has released another single from her Have Harmony, Will Travel 3 album. Written by Hollies founding member Allan Clarke, “It Makes Me Cry” is a country style ballad rich with heartfelt observations on human nature. It features Clarke playing harmonica and combining with Olson for the heartfelt vocals. Laurence Juber, the former Paul McCartney and Wings member, embellishes “It Makes Me Cry” with his lead guitar playing.
Rattleback Records on Chicago’s north side will present the Pravda Records Holiday Showcase on December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The Sunshine Boys Reunion Show would be reason enough to check out this event, and it will also feature Nathan Graham, Chloe F. Orwell From The Handcuffs, and Steve Dawson from Dolly Varden (he’s successful a solo artist).
The recently announced Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds North America Tour includes a stop in Chicago on June 27 at Soldier Field, and a presale is taking place on November 30. General sales start the next day. Other cities on the tour include Houston, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Los Angeles.

Participating musicians include Butch Vig and Duke Erikson from Garbage (and as any rock-savvy Wisconsin fan knows, Spooner), Chris Collingwood from Fountains Of Wayne and Freedy Johnson; and Gail Greenwood from Belly, Debbi and Vicki Peterson from The Bangles, and Linda Pitmon from The Minus Five. Joey’s Song is a charity devoted to raising money for epilepsy research and to provide services for children with special needs.

Cast member Desiree Burcum’s Judy Garland inspired title character will once again host Famous In The Future’s A Judy Christmas holiday revue on the weekend of December 15 – 17 at The Den Theatre. The comedy group, which I was a member of for several years, will likely offer a mix of skits and songs.
