Weekend Reminders

Photo from the official Wolf Alice Facebook page.

Weekend Reminders on Thursday posts focus on events that were previously mentioned on Broken Hearted Toy, and are taking place during the upcoming weekend. Plus, the occasional event taking place this weekend that has just come to my attention, record release info, or concert tickets going on sale.

Wolf Alice plans to release a seven-inch vinyl record featuring three songs from the recording sessions of their latest album The Clearing that didn’t make the final cut. A post on the UK rockers’ Facebook page notes the songs “are ones we love very much” and “we’re happy to have found a home for them for you to hear.” “The Clearing B Sides” comes out August 21, and is available to pre-order on the Wolf Alice website.

The 43rd Annual American Music Festival kicked off at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn, IL today and will run through Sunday. As in previous years, there’s an impressive lineup of local and national acts, covering multiple genres. Some prime examples are The Heavy Heavy, Spin Doctors; Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore; CJ Chenier And The Red Hot Louisiana Band; Meadowlark Lemons; Nicholas Tremulis And The Prodigals; Terry White; Michael McDermott; Chicago Soul Jazz Collective; and Mud Morganfield. Check the FitzGerald’s Facebook page or website for information.

Tickets are still available to see The Church perform at Park West in Chicago on July 7 as part of The Singles Tour. The Australian rockers are best known for their 1988 irresistible single “Under The Milky Way Tonight” and they have gigs coming up in St. Paul, MN; Kansas City, MO’ and Denver, CO.

Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI resumes today and will run through Saturday. Acts scheduled to perform include Muse; Stephen Marley; KT Tunstall; Spoon; Gin Blossoms; DJ Jazzy Jeff; Outronaut; The Jayhawks; Soul Asylum; BoDeans; The Beths; and Jerry Harrison’s 50 Years Of Talking Heads.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for an Outdoor Summer Concert featuring Smoking Popes with special guest Spitafiled at The Venue Aurora IL on Aug 28th.

The WXRT 4th Of July Live Weekend starts tomorrow morning and will feature “more than fifty years of explosive concerts recorded in Chicago exclusively for 93XRT.” The long-time Chicago alternative rock station can be found at 93.1FM; 93XRT.com; and on the Audacy app.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for dates being added to The Big One ZZ Top and Cheap Trick Tour. Those new locations are Nashville, TN; The Woodlands, TX; and Irving, TX.

Three local rock bands will perform at a 4th Of July picnic taking place at 7301 N. Sheridan on Chicago’s far north side. The Lovely Rut, an offshoot of the Famous In The Future comedy group, kicks things off at 3:00 pm; followed by a mysterious act named Das Babies. The Wolf, apparently a stripped-down version of whitewolfsonicprincess, will be the final act.
